Here is a simple guideline to healthy eating. It will keep your blood sugar high. When your blood sugar is low, YOU FEEL LOW, TIRED and DEPRESSED. Don’t let it happen to you.
1 DRINK PLENTY OF WATER Make sure you’re drinking enough water as it helps the body do its job more efficiently. Aim to drink AT LEAST a litre (about 2 pints) a day.
2 EAT PROTEIN WITH EVERY MEAL Eating protein regularly helps to regulate blood sugar levels and provides essential nutrients. Fish, meat, eggs, low fat dairy product, etc. Eating a breakfast with about 30 grams of protein will make you feel good, energetic and happy.
3 DON’T FORGET THE HEALTHY FAT Fat is important for providing energy and keeping hormones well balanced. Try to avoid artery-clogging saturated fats found in butter, red meat and pastries. However healthy fats found in seeds, nuts and various oils such as olive oil are good for you and including them in a meal helps you to feel fuller for longer.
4 AVOID STIMULANTS Stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes and sugar give your body a short-lived energy boost before a prolonged slump. Eating refined foods such as white flour, bread and pasta has the same effect. Try drinking decaffeinated beverages and eating wholegrain foods which give you a slower release of energy.
5 SLEEP The body heals, repairs and rests as we sleep so a good night’s sleep is essential if you want to be healthy and full of energy. Eating foods rich in the sleepy chemical tryptophan, such as bananas, brown rice, nuts, eggs and cheese, are thought to help you sleep.
