I have just read a great article by Elizabeth Dunn, an associate professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia, and Michael Norton, an associate professor of business administration at Harvard Business School,
Some of you may have read about this stuff before. I have written quite a bit of it  here on this blog.But lots of this article is new and lots of the older stuff has been updated and given a fresh, clear explanation.
BUT what makes this article so good is the writing! It is brilliant. It explains everything in language that is so easy to read, and more important, so EEEZZZ to understand. I’m looking forward to reading their book.
Here are some excerpts and comments. The excerpts are in inverted commas (“………….”)

“HOW much money do you need to be happy? Think about it. What’s your number? ………Is it crazy to question how much money you need to be happy? The notion that money can’t buy happiness has been around a long time — ”

An important question that has bothered some of the biggest brains in the world. The article goes on to explore the ground expertly and offer answers.

“….. but in the United States, it seems to fall somewhere around $75,000. Using Gallup data collected from almost half a million Americans,…….”

In the UK, this would be roughly about 1,000 pounds a week. But the savage UK taxation would  mean that a UK  reader would need about 1,200 pounds a week. A very good wage indeed. One most workers could only dream about.
This article makes me wonder about the situation in the UK. A lot of people here realise  that going to work will not make them any better off (and happier) so they live on State Benefits and use every trick in the book to avoid the Government’s attempts to get them to work.

“What we do with the money plays a far more important role than how much money we make.”

Lots of good detail here on how to spend money to buy happiness.

“In a recent study conducted by our student Jordi Quoidbach, chocolate lovers ate a piece of this confection”

Here is a study done by the writers that I’ve not heard of before.

“When we follow up with people who receive cash from us, those whom we told to spend on others report greater happiness than those told to spend on themselves.”

What Would Make YOU Happy?
Usually getting what you want in your life. Now in order to get what you want in your life, first you must learn what it is that you want in your life. It could be anything. Perhaps it’s just one thing, perhaps it’s everything. Plenty of Money, lots of Success, a change of appearance, an exciting sex partner, a reliable husband or wife, of plenty friends, great holidays and a nice home. Why limit yourself? Find out what would really make you happy, get it, and start enjoying a happy lifestyle.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? And you’re probably saying ‘It’s easy for him to talk’,aren’t you? And you’re right! Talking is easy. That’s why you do nothing but talk about what is wrong in your life. You never DO anything about it. It’s not as if this programme asks you to do anything hard. I make sure that each step is super easy to understand, to get started on and to keep on doing.
First you must prioritise your list. Find out what would give you the most satisfaction in your life and start going for that first.
That is your basic plan. Have a look at the list above and work out what you are going to go for first. Then examine the archives at  https://happinessguru.wordpress.com         to find articles that will help you.
Getting Started
The next step is to move through the plan. To do this you will need energy to get you started, the energy to keep you going and the energy to stick to the plan until all those things that you can only dream about at present, become a reality. A part of your everyday life. Just think about how happy, how satisfying and how enjoyable your life will be when what you want to happen in your life is happening. And it will happen. Believe me! Just as sure as day follows the darkest night, it will work for you. Even if you are presently in  the pitch black darkness of disappointment, loneliness or despair, your new energy will be like the strongest torch beam. It will cut through the darkness and focus only on where you want go and show you the safest and quickest way to get there.
By now, I know that you are thinking, what energy is that? LOL. So let me stop telling you how much you are going to enjoy yourself and start talking about the ENERGY you will be using.. LOL.
The Energy
To get the full energy, you must follow some very simple guide lines. I hope that you already follow some of them.
1) Exercise regularly.
2) Be active. Get out and about. Your life won’t get better while you’re sitting in your armchair. The armchair is for doing your planning. If you’re not planning your next big event get up, get out and get moving.
3) Eat the right sort of healthy food. If you are overweight, start some sort of weight control plan.
4) Stop smoking, alcohol abuse and drug taking. If you are on drugs prescribed by your doctor, examine this area closely. I know lots of people who are on prescription drugs whose lives have been wrecked by them.
5) All the above are things you should be doing already to certain levels. Perhaps you could boost them a bit. They all drain you life energy and interfere with your body working for higher levels of achievement. The more you can cut down on them, the quicker you will get where you want to go. Believe me. I have seen it happen so many times. Now here are some things you may not be so familiar with.
6) Meditation. You are presently like a runner in a race trying to run with a large back pack. It is overloaded with rubbish from your past. Rubbish that your parents, teachers  and other people filled you with, brainwashing from the media, bad experiences and false beliefs. If you want to start winning the race  of life, you want to start getting rid of all that rubbish. And meditation will get rid of all of it, so completely that it will amaze you.
7) You must learn how Karma works and how to use it. Doing Good Karma means that Good Karma will come back to you. Doing Bad Karma means that Bad Karma will come back to you. Living a life full of Good Karma will help you achieve all that could ever want in your life.
8) You must understand the law of Cause and Effect i.e If you start working on your plan ,then  your plan will start working for you. Or: If you put money in the bank every week, then you will have enough for a great holiday. Or: If you spend all your money, then you’ll be broke. LOL.  Or: If you drink too much, the next day you’ll have a hangover. More  LOL
9) You must KNOW that there is an abundance and wealth of EVERYTHING that you could possibly want. It’s all out there. Money, Success, Love. They are all there just waiting for you to take your share. And I am going to teach you how to take all that you want,need and wish for.
10) You must learn how to flow your intrinsic energy. This is the pysical psychic and subtle  energy that is well known in Japan (Ki) and China (Chi). It is called  Ki as in Ai-KI-do or Chi as in Tai CHI. This is the most powerful energy that you can master. Roughly speaking it is a mixture of all the others. It is not in any way connected to Yoga.
I have listed 10 energies . You could concentrate on one of them, some of them or even all of them. The amount of work  you put in can be very slight or full power.  But just like the Laws of Karma the more you put in, the more you get out. The harder you work, the better the results. The more you focus, the quicker you will get what it is you want.
My advice to you is to start off using a little of each of them. And just let your strength build up. Follow the ones that you find easy to do. but increase the pressure.
When you get a good grip on the above.they will give you EVERYTHING that you want.

Happiness, Well Being And Wealth! News!

Here is a very interesting article. It takes a look at the part that Happiness, Wealth and feelings of well being play in the quality of life in deprived areas. Money, or perhaps I should say, lack of money isn’t as important as you might think. Lots of other factors come into it. Things like happiness, community and family play a big part.
Here at this blog we are continually looking for ways to improve the quality of our lives.
Nothing new seems to come up. We’ll just have to stick to our own basic stuff that we know works for us. And get better at doing it. And we will won’t we? LOL

Can Money Make You Happy ? (FREE)

Can having a lot of money make you happy? Of course it can! Can you be happy if you don’t have a lot of money? Of course you can! Many people say that they would suddenly become  happier if they became rich. Yet there are lots of studies about the different levels of happiness in different countries. The richer, developed countries do not score as high as the poorer countries. There are many more people in the undeveloped countries. Obviously the many people in those poorer, undeveloped countries, who are reporting high levels of happiness, do not believe that you have to be rich to enjoy life.

So it goes on. Back and forward. Two opposite arguments. The ‘You need money to be happy’ group versus the ‘Money won’t buy you happiness’ group. Which is the correct answer?

The answer is that there is no correct answer. There is no answer because there is no valid question. My Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)  training brings me to this understanding:

You can not compare or connect happiness and money. They are both in different classes or categories. Happiness is a feeling like depression, sorrow, friendliness etc. Money is a thing like coat, car, door etc. To say that ‘You need money to feel happy’ is as silly as saying  ‘ You need a coat to feel friendly’ or ‘You need a door to feel sorrow’. This may be a bit hard to understand but it is not something I have made up. It is a real cause of many arguments that seem to have no  solution. I learned it in NLP but, as an NLPer, let me say this:
As an NLPer I am not interested in any argument. I am only concerned with a good solution for the situation.
Here we have 3 groups:
1) People who have little money but are happy.
2) People who do not have money and are unhappy.
3) People who have money and are unhappy.

The Happy People programme is one that will enable you to have more Love, Wealth and Happiness in your life.  This is the solution for each of the three groups. Each group will benefity
from The Happy People Programme. Just imagine how happy YOU are going to feel when the programme starts working for YOU. And work it will, trust me. Be Happy, Here’s How!

There used to be no Science of Happiness. Everybody believed that you had no control over being happy. You had no control over when you were happy, You had no control over how long you were happy for and you had no control over how strong the feeling of being happy was when you did have it.
They were all wrong. You can control it. You can control it in all of those areas. How often it comes, how long it stays here and how to supersize it. But, before going into how, let me share with you the new ‘Science of Happiness’.
Neuroscientists, psychologists and researchers all over the world are establishing what makes people happy, happier and happiest in all areas of their life. The problem is that these investigators are not doing this to make you and me happier. They don’t do it in order to make themselves happier. They do it to let their bosses and their fellow scientists know how CLEVER they are.
And being clever is not being happy.
Being recognised as being clever will bring a temporary buzz of happiness. We all know this. We have all had this. But it will fade. Let me share this with you.
You do something clever. People say things like:
“I like that”
“That’s clever”
“You’re pretty smart”
You immediately feel a warm glow of recognition. That is a happy feeling. We’ve all had it.
But it is, in my opinion, not a good base for the happiness lifestyle that I want to share with people.
Why not?
Because it follows all the rules of the OLD ideas about happiness.
First of all your happiness has to come from other people. And they may not give it.
They may not mention how clever you are.
They may only mention it briefly.
They may never mention it again.
So you see, you have no control over when it comes, how long it lasts or how powerful it is.
You must learn that control over your happiness lifestyle must not rely on the behaviour of other people.
You must learn how to generate your own happiness.
You must learn to control your own life for yourself, for your own benefit, for your own happiness.
So why not get started, NOW!
