Happiness, You And Winter!
You should be Happy all year round, but nature and your body tend to work against that. The shorter days and lack of sunshine make lots of changes in your body. It slows down your production of certain hormones. This can make you feel tired, sluggish and even depressed. It is called SAD (seasonal affective disorder) Now The Happy People never want to feel like that!. So, if you want to be one of The Happy People, what can you do about that?
Well, here are some of the problems and 5 ways to help you beat them and

stay Happy
1) Happiness And The Winter Blues!
In Winter, the days are shorter. Missing out on sunlight, can cause SAD and this can cause mental dullness, depression and feelings of tiredness. Some people are strongly affected by SAD and others are hardly aware of it. If you are affected by it you should get out into the daylight for at least half an hour a day. This should be when the light is at it’s strongest Usually this is between 6am and  1opm. I’ll just repeat that:- outdoors, for at least half an hour, between 6am and 10pm.
This will help you beat SAD by resetting your bodyclock . If you can do some fitness training in the morning as well, that is great. Even if you have to get up half an hour earlier. This will lift your energy levels for the rest of the day and get your endorphin(Happiness) hormone pumping around your body up to seven hours afterwards.
2) Winter Happiness Diet!
In the winter, the body produces less of the Happiness hormone, Serotonin. The Happy People (You and Me. LOL) are always looking for ways to increase Serotonin, not to cut back on it! This is because it makes us feel so good! Because of this need we tend to eat more carbs. Cut down on the naughty white carbs like pasta, bread, rice and potatoes. These will put pounds on you and are the reason why so many people put weight on in the winter months. Instead eat low calorie carbs such as Swedes, carrots, sweet potatoes etc.
The body makes serotonin from a chemical called tryptophan, which is in foods such as dairy products, fish, bananas, dried dates, soya, almonds and peanuts. Combining tryptophan-rich foods with wholegrain carbs – such as brown rice, wholemeal bread or oats – helps the body release insulin, which boosts the amount of tryptophan available for your body to use.The bonus is that you will not put on that winter bloat and have to try to lose it next summer. And that will be a BIG happiness bonus LOL
P.S Don’t forget your iron intake. Eat red meat, fish, eggs, bread, fortified breakfast cereals, pulses, green leafy vegetables and dried fruit.
3) Get A Life!
Don’t stay in. Get out and meet or visit friends a few nights a week. Join a gym or club of some sort.  Don’t let the dark nights keep you indoors.
4) Set Yourself A Target!
Plan some area of your life. Learn a new language, perhaps for your next holiday. lose weight, get fitter, stop  smoking, start dance classes. Dancing is a great activity, if you really want to become one of The Happy People. It exercises your whole body, brings a tremendous flow of all the Happiness Hormones and gets you in touch with the opposite sex. It cannot be beaten for Happiness training, pure exercise and social grouping. I dance as much as I can. You can get as high as a kite without abusing alcohol.
5) Keep Your Sex Life Buzzing!
In the Summer you have high levels of the Happiness Hormones  serotonin and dopamine, and of the sex hormone testosterone, putting you in the mood for love. Everybody feels sexier in the Summer because of this. This is why all those sunshine holidaymakers act the way they do. And why not? If you  are not in a relationship, get one now. You’ll feel happier, I guarantee it! LOL It’ll give you something to do on those dark nights.
6) Walking With Nature!
Recent research shows that walking in a city increases depression but walking in the open outdoors will boost your mood, give you Happy feeling and increase you feelings of well being. So get out in the open as much as possible. you’ll feel better for it. I prefer  to walk at the sea side or by a river because the ozone level is higher and this makes me feel great.
Staying Happy!
So there you have 6 ways to beat the Winter blues.
Here in the U.K we have had a really horrible, dreadful, depressing summer .Many, many people tell me how down they are. And I can also see and hear even more people just by observation. Do not waste any time! Start the programme as soon as possible. This is Happiness you are losing out on.
The one thing that you must never ever waste. You have probably missed out on lots of Happiness in your life. This is the time for you to change all that. You are going to reach your two hands into the Happiness bucket and take out as much as you can. And keep on reaching in and taking out.LOL
Don’t worry, you’ll never miss out on any more. I’ll teach you how to do it.
The day you start the above programme could be the most important day in the rest of your life
the plan is EVERGREEN. The plan itself is not seasonal. It will work in the Summer as well as in the Winter. If you start on it now, you will be in full flow when Winter comes. You will be bubbling with a high level of Happiness. AND when you see the Summer sunshine you will continue with the plan and hit an even higher level of Happiness.
This is not all talk or wishful thinking. It is all stuff that the scientists are proving by pooling research done in Universities, laboratories and out in the streets   in many, many tests all over the world. The amazing results come from being able to pool all the  results using computes. Here are some others things that you can do.

What’s Stopping You?
Everybody wants to be Happy. Here is an excellent article about Happiness. It points out things that cause unhappy thoughts and feelings. It  covers the causes but it doesn’t tell you how to put things right. On this blog The Happy People work on how to prevent unhappiness and how to build Happiness in your life. To do this we use use Behaviour Modification, the latest Neuroscience research and Neuro Linguistic Programming. That is a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it? But don’t be put off. We also use Meditation.
Meditation is one of the simplest and easiest and most powerful tools you can use to get rid of unhappy feelings and replace them with Happiness.
Who Leads The Happy People?
I have been Meditating for more than 40 years. I officially registered Liverpool’s first Meditation Church 30 years ago, so I know how Meditation can lead you to a happier life. I am also a Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming.
So What Is Stopping Me Being Happy?
I have put some excerpts from the article below in italics. Make sure that you read the full article. There is a link to it at the bottom of the article.
One of the problems of building up a Happy lifestyle is that you (and everybody else) has great difficulty in focussing on what you want and staying focussed. Meditation is perfect for this and the other tools I mentioned above work with it perfectly.
This article was written by two top men men from Harvard University in America. The research done was wide and well conducted.

People spend 46.9 percent of their waking hours thinking about something other than what they’re doing, and this mind-wandering typically makes them unhappy………..
“A human mind is a wandering mind, and a wandering mind is an unhappy mind,” Killingsworth and Gilbert write.
Unlike other animals, humans spend a lot of time thinking about what isn’t going on around them: contemplating events that happened in the past, might happen in the future, or may never happen at all. Indeed, mind-wandering appears to be the human brain’s default mode of operation.

Me: As I said above, one of the methods that the Happy People use to build Happiness is Meditation. We have other ways that do not use Meditation but Meditation is so easy to learn and do. The type we do is non religious. It empties your mind and allows it to stop thinking and, as this research shows, thinking can make you unhappy. Our meditation teaches you how to focus on what you are doing which brings you a positive feeling and after a Meditation session you are left with a positive, happy feeling. (As well as Meditation we also learn the psychology of Happiness and the physical behaviours that also lead to it.)
Here are more points that are mentioned in the article.

respondents reported that their minds were wandering 46.9 percent of time, and no less than 30 percent of the time during every activity except making love.

Me: Stop thinking negative thoughts, make love instead. LOL

Killingsworth and Gilbert, a professor of psychology at Harvard, found that people were happiest when making love, exercising, or engaging in conversation. They were least happy when resting, working, or using a home computer.

Me; So there you have it. The perfect life plan. Start NOW! Go to the gym. Make love. Chat to people.
Don’t lie in bed (thinking?), don’t work and don’t use home computers (?????YIKES!) LOL

whereas a person’s mind-wandering status accounted for about 10.8 percent of his or her happiness………….

“Many philosophical and religious traditions teach that happiness is to be found by living in the moment, and practitioners are trained to resist mind wandering and to ‘be here now,’” Killingsworth and Gilbert note in Science. “These traditions suggest that a wandering mind is an unhappy mind.”

Me: Please note that The Happy People are not a philosophical or religious group. The Meditation goes above that to a higher level.

Killingsworth and Gilbert’s 2,250 subjects in this study ranged in age from 18 to 88, representing a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds and occupations. Seventy-four percent of study participants were American.

So why not join The Happy People, it is FREE and will lead to more Happiness in your life. As soon as you start you will see the improvements that you want in your life!
My next blog will also cover this area of how YOU stop Happiness happening in Your life and how to defeat this negative part of your behaviour.

Love, Peace and Happiness,

You Can Buy Happiness? Here’s How!

Happiness (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Be as happy as a kid ALL your life. Happiness (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Money CAN Buy Happiness!
It is often said that money can’t buy happiness. Lots of research has been  done that shows this to be true. And it is almost always true. But being poor won’t buy happiness either. The truth is that whatever amount of money you have, what you spend your money on will control to a large extent just how happy you are. I’m not talking about people who are suffering illnesses or disabilities or are bereaved. These ‘unhappinesses’ have very little to do with money.

Money spent wisely, can help you to be happier. Some people (I’m talking about the UK) have very little money left after buying the essentials of life. But most people have some money left over. Some people are very wasteful with money.
They spend it foolishly on gambling, alcohol and drug abuse. Things that they say they enjoy but really bring much stress, misery and problems into their lives. And lots of Bad Karma!
Many, many people that I know fall into this latter group. People on good incomes who have nothing in the bank and mountains of debt.
As the leader of The Happy People, I am determined to show everybody that they  can be happy.  This is an easy group to start with. They have the ability to act more wisely with the money that they do have. They only have to stop wasting it and start spending it on things that will bring more happiness into their lives and the lives of the people that they love.
I have just read an excellent article about this approach to happiness. The link to the full article is at the bottom of the post.
Here are some of the highlights and my comments which are written in italics. But do read the full article at the link.

Using Money To Buy Happiness

Recent research has begun to distinguish two aspects of subjective well-being. Emotional well-being refers to the emotional quality of an individual’s everyday experience — the frequency and intensity of experiences of joy, stress, sadness, anger, and affection that make one’s life pleasant or unpleasant. Life evaluation refers to the thoughts that people have about their life when they think about it. We raise the question of whether money buys happiness, separately for these two aspects of well-being. We report an analysis of more than 450,000 responses to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, a daily survey of 1,000 US residents conducted by the Gallup Organization. […] When plotted against log income, life evaluation rises steadily.

The Gallup Organization is a very reliable one and this is a massive number of responses so we can trust the results.

But even if you’re fortunate enough to have a good income, how you spend your money has a strong influence on how h appy – or unhappy – it will make you. And, again, there’s science behind this. The relevant research is summarized in If money doesn’t make you happy, then you probably aren’t spending it right (pdf).

Most people don’t know the basic scientific facts about happiness — about what brings it and what sustains it — and so they don’t know how to use their money to acquire it.

I have written lots of posts here on the blog about this.

and it should not be surprising when wealthy people who know nothing about happiness end up with lives that aren’t that much happier than anyone else’s. Money is an opportunity for happiness, but it is an opportunity that people routinely squander because the things they think will make them happy oftendon’t

You must study the blog and learn every possible way to increase your knowledge of happiness, how to get it and how to use your money to get even more. Here are some of the article’s advised ways

What is, then, the science of happiness? I’ll summarize the basic eight points as best I can, but read the actual paper (pdf) to obtain the citations and details on the underlying studies underpinning each of these principles.

1. Buy experiences instead of things

Things get old. Things become ordinary. Things stay the same. Things wear out. Things are difficult to share. But experiences are totally unique; they shine like diamonds in your memory, often more brightly every year, and they can be shared forever. Whenever possible, spend money on experiences such as taking your family to Disney World, rather than things like a new television.

Again, more posts on my blog.

2. Help others instead of yourself

Human beings are intensely social animals. Anything we can do with money to create deeper connections with other human beings tends to tighten our social connections and reinforce positive feelings about ourselves and others. Imagine ways you can spend some part of your money to help others – even in a very small way – and integrate that into your regular spending habits.

Sharing also brings GOOD KARMA. See my blog.

3. Buy many small pleasures instead of few big ones

Because we adapt so readily to change, the most effective use of your money is to bring frequent change, not just “big bang” changes that you will quickly grow acclimated to. Break up large purchases, when possible, into smaller ones over time so that you can savor the entire experience. When it comes to happiness, frequency is more important than intensity. Embrace the idea that lots of small, pleasurable purchases are actually more effective than a single giant one.

Great advice.

4. Buy less insurance

Humans adapt readily to both positive and negative change. Extended warranties and insurance prey on your impulse for loss aversion, but because we are so adaptable, people experience far less regret than they anticipate when their purchases don’t work out. Furthermore, having the easy “out” of insurance or a generous return policy can paradoxically lead to even more angst and unhappiness because people deprived themselves of the emotional benefit of full commitment. Thus, avoid buying insurance, and don’t seek out generous return policies.

I think this is mainly an American thing. I don’t do this often,  I’ m from Merseyside, UK, so I’m not sure about it.

5. Pay now and consume later

Immediate gratification can lead you to make purchases you can’t afford, or may not even truly want. Impulse buying also deprives you of the distance necessary to make reasoned decisions. It eliminates any sense of anticipation, which is a strong source of happiness. For maximum happiness, savor (maybe even prolong!) the uncertainty of deciding whether to buy, what to buy, and the time waiting for the object of your desire to arrive.

When you are buying something, think about it overnight. Commonly known as ‘Sleep on it’. I think the article means significant items. If you did it before buying a daily paper, it could be a waste of of time LOL. Thinking about it, though I stopped buying newspapers a long time ago because the weekly cost mounts up high.

6. Think about what you’re not thinking about

We tend to gloss over details when considering future purchases, but research shows that our happiness (or unhappiness) largely lies in exactly those tiny details we aren’t thinking about. Before making a major purchase, consider the mechanics and logistics of owning this thing, and where your actual time will be spent once you own it. Try to imagine a typical day in your life, in some detail, hour by hour: how will it be affected by this purchase?

7. Beware of comparison shopping

Comparison shopping focuses us on attributes of products that arbitrarily distinguish one product from another, but have nothing to do with how much we’ll enjoy the purchase. They emphasize characteristics we care about while shopping, but not necessarily what we’ll care about when actually using or consuming what we just bought. In other words, getting a great deal on cheap chocolate for $2 may not matter if it’s not pleasurable to eat. Don’t get tricked into comparing for the sake of comparison; try to weight only those criteria that actually matter to your enjoyment or the experience.

This is a good one. Basically, before looking to see how good this item is compared with that one, you should ask yourself do you really need any of them. Or could you hold on to your money.

8. Follow the herd instead of your head

Don’t overestimate your ability to independently predict how much you’ll enjoy something. We are, scientifically speaking, very bad at this. But if something reliably makes others happy, it’s likely to make you happy, too. Weight other people’s opinions and user reviews heavily in your purchasing decisions. Happiness is a lot harder to come by than money. So when you do spend money, keep these eight lessons in mind to maximize whatever happiness it can buy for you.

How To Get A Happiness Gold Medal?

Achieving Happiness
Love, Peace and Happiness is what this blog is about. And other related matters. I have just read a terrific article about people achieving the things that they want to achieve.  I have put some of the particularly exciting parts below. I have added my comments in italics. Although the article does not deal with our particular interests directly, there are many, many lessons here for all of us to learn about how to get happy.

The Article Says
I’m constantly awed by the power of the human spirit, depth of human ingenuity and our ability to accomplish the most amazing of feats. Two great examples are the London Olympics and successful Mars landing of NASA’s Exploratory Rover Curiosity.
The Olympic Games put human strength, dexterity and endurance on full display. They provided a monumental stage for the globe’s best athletes to show the world what real dedication, uncompromised motivation, true self-belief and relentless practice can bring you. These elite athletes teach us all about the numerous rewards that come from unwavering persistence, hard physical labor and personal sacrifice.

Me: That’s right. Just think about the unwavering persistence, hard physical labor and personal sacrifice that these people put into getting what they want. When I think of how easy it is in effort to make big changes in your life, how effortless it can be to get happiness, better relationships and personal success into your life, it amazes me how few people actually do it,

Article: You’d be surprised what you can do when you have to.

Me: You will. Once you start to do what you have to do to get the things that you want to get, you’ll be amazed at how easy it is.

Article: When I think about the accomplishments of the Olympic athletes and NASA scientists, I’m struck by how little time and effort so many people truly put into bettering their lives and reaching their dreams.
Far too many people just amble through their lives on autopilot and don’t put forth the effort needed to reach their goals and maximize their potential. There’s a tendency today to want to get things quickly done while putting forth as little exertion as possible.
I see this all the time with people who want to lose weight. They say all the right things, read all the right books and talk a mean game plan. But they fall ridiculously short when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is.
So in the spirit of the past 2012 Summer Olympics and successful landing of the NASA rover Curiosity on Mars, I challenge you to push the envelope in your life. Allow these two incredible events from the past couple of weeks to ignite your motivational fire and drive you toward success and achievement too.

I bet that there’s something crossing your mind at this very moment that you know needs more of your time, effort and attention. Perhaps you’ve given up on it or maybe you haven’t even begun to attack it.

I’m here to tell you that it’s time for that to change. Whatever still remains undone or unattended to in your life, make today the day you begin to implement an action plan that will move you toward it.

Me: That’s right. Start today. Start getting lots of love, freedom from stress, enjoyment and achievement into your life now. The sooner you get started the sooner you’ll be enjoying it. Read some of the articles below this on the blog. Look at the articles in the archives. SHARE this material with people.Discuss it with people. One of the best ways to get happier is to share happy stuff with other people.

Article: To make this happen, you’ll need to utilize both your physical skills, like the Olympic athletes, and mental skills, like the forward-thinking and problem-solving NASA scientists.

Me: You don’t have to. You won’t even break a sweat. All you have to use is the power of thought. That may be hard at first but not as hard as Olympic Athletics. LOL.

Article: …………. if you can think it, you can do it. But it takes a healthy combination of both thought and action to make it happen. As some unknown author said: You can’t plow a field by turning it over in your mind!

Me: It is important to share and discuss the ideas on this blog with other people. If they disagree with you, then argue with them and try to convince them. This is an important part of your training because even if you don’t convince them, you are convincing yourself about the soundness of your ideas. You are building up your Happiness Mindset and that is important for you. Even when they are not listening, YOU are listening. When YOU are talking, you can’t help listening.  Sometimes you are the only person listening. LOL
This is an improved type of Affirmation. You know what an Affirmation is. It’s when you repeat “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better” many times during the day. Slowly but surely it will come true for you.talking about In the same way when you start discussing with your friends about happiness, you are giving yourself the Affirmation that you can get happier. And that “Every day, in every way, YOU are getting happier and happier.” In this way you re using the Law Of attraction.
Don’t worry about convincing your friends. Just concentrate on convincing yourself first. When you have happiness to spare, then you can spread it to them. But that will be later.

How to be happy? Choose to be happy!

Happy kid

Happiness (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Here is a truly great article about how you can be happy by choosing to be happy.
Many bad things can stop the happiness in your life. Depression, lack of money, bereavement, changes of circumstance can all destroy your full enjoyment of life.
The tragedy of these setbacks is that you lose sight of the fact that you were born to be happy. If you are not happy your physical and mental health will worsen. You know things should be different but you don’t know how to change them. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that happiness is an easy thing to get. For some people it can be next to impossible. BUT you will get there.  So the sooner you start, the sooner you will get there. The sooner you stop all those unhappiness hormones pumping through your body and get those happiness hormones pumping into your bloodstream, the healthier and  happier you will feel.
How To Be Happy
First you must make the choice to be happy. You must adopt the mind set that you are going to be happy.
Thenyou must have a strong plan:
1) Separate your problem areas out.
2) Start working on them.
3) If you can’t change some of them, accept the fact. Compartmentalise these  areas.
4) Start working on the happiness areas that you can change.
5) Start working on building new areas for happiness into your life.
You are probably wondering how you are going to actually do these things.
If so, go to the blog at there are over 300 articles there that will help you. And it’s all FREE!

Here is an excerpt from the article I mentioned at the beginning of my post.

You Can Choose Happiness

Yet, despite how difficult things are for so many, as I had to learn myself, it’s important to realize that we can still be perfectly happy… providing that we understand the one, true source of genuine, lasting happiness.

There’s a well-known scientific study that provides some necessary insight:

Researchers looked at three groups of people: lottery winners, accident victims who tragically became paraplegic, and a control group who neither won the lottery nor suffered severe trauma. Predictably enough, the study found that in the first few months after winning, lottery recipients experienced a large upward spike in their level of happiness, while the happiness level for the recently paralyzed subjects fell dramatically.

That’s not surprising, as anyone who has ever received shockingly good or bad news can attest. What’s startling is what researchers discovered beginning at sixth months and becomes unmistakable at the 12-month mark: Within a year, the happiness level of those that had won the lottery had fallen all the way back to, and in some cases well-below where it had been prior to their windfall. Conversely, after about a year, the paraplegic subjects had adjusted to their new life circumstances, and their happiness levels had recovered entirely. In fact, they were generally much happier than the lottery winners!

How to be Happy? Take a break!

Family is IMPORTANT Happy (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

How does having  a happiness break grab you? Does it sound good? Would you enjoy it? Let me answer for you: Yes! Yes! Yes!  LOL!
It sounds good when I say it but how to put it into your life.
You can’t be happy when you’re working longer hours!
“Technology was  supposed to create more leisure time. In 1965, the U.S. government predicted that by the year 2000, automation would lead to 20-hour work weeks.”
That would make you happy, wouldn’t it? You’d soon learn how to be happy with all that extra leisure time, wouldn’t you? Just imagine all the exciting, interesting things you could do.

Does all this sound too good to be true? You’re  right BECAUSE:
” However, from the 1970s to the 1990s, the average American worker spent 163 hours more working each year. So what happened to the happiness minutes?

Anne-Marie Slaughter at the Miller Center

Anne-Marie Slaughter at the Miller Center (Photo credit: Miller_Center)

You can’t be happy if you’re doing more work in each hour than ever before ”
And even worse:
“Our conception of time (in work) as something that should be packed with as many tasks as possible can be traced to the early 20th century’s scientific management philosophy, which suggested that businesses should induce workers to perform more tasks in less time……… They believed enhanced efficiency((in working hours) would free up more “happiness minutes” to spend with family.”

The above quotes come from Anne-Marie Slaughter‘s excellent article.     (See Link below). Perhaps  you think that this problem effects you, or  you are concerned about the level of Happiness in your life? If so perhaps you might become one of The Happy People community that read my blog (  ) to learn to get more love, peace and happiness into your life. Start today, it’s FREE. Get happy!

Why Should You Be Happy?
Do you think that wanting to be happy is a waste of time, foolish and unrealistic?
If so you are wrong!
Being a happy person will help you stop falling ill, help you recover from illness and help you to have a longer, fuller life. Yes, being happy will keep you healthy. Nobody wants to have a longer life if it is full of misery, aches and petty illnesses.
If You Want To Be Happy
Research keeps showing more and more evidence that having a happy outlook will help you to be  healthy AND happy.
Here is just one example. Two researchers, Thuston and Kubzansky and studied 6,000 men and women for 20 years.
They reported  that : ”….-a sense of enthusiasm, hopefulness, engagement of life, and the ability to face life’s stresses with emotional balance  reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.”
Happiness Is Health Is Happiness
I’ve been writing about happiness bringing good health so far. Let’s look at the other side of the coin. Being healthy makes you feel happy.
That’s right! Being healthy makes you happy AND being happy makes you healthy, as we’ve seen above.
I have many articles on my blog that discuss the effects that  exercise and keeping fit have on your happiness level. You don’t have don’t have to become a fitness freak to get this bonus. Scientists who have studied the effect that exercise has on feelings of well being came up with this fact. If you are feeling low ten (yes, ten) minutes of exercise will change your mood. There is no need to kill yourself either. Brisk walking will  do the trick.
It will also lower your cholesterol level,  reduce emotional stress and improve your blood pressure. But let me add, although you need only light exercise to show big improvements  in  your life, the more you exercise the happier you will become.
What Should You Do?
Fitness and happiness obviously play a big part in what would be a perfect lifestyle. So start building them up until they are a part of your daily life. Become one of The Happy People! It’s FREE! Just follow this blog at:

Here is just one example. Two researchers, Thuston and Kubzansky and studied 6,000 men and women for 20 years.
They reported  that : “….-a sense of enthusiasm, hopefulness, engagement of life, and the ability to face life’s stresses with emotional balance  reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.”

If  You REALLY want to be happy, get GOOD friends
But they have to be  GOOD friends. They must be sensible, upbeat and most of all, have good intentions towards you. This last one is very important. Because if they hurt your feelings, or if they reject you, it will hurt you just as much as if  they had hit you with a punch. Emotional hurt is the same as physical hurt. They both effect the same areas of the brain. The cortex and the dorsal posterior insula, are two very powerful areas of your brain, They are both kicked into action by injury to your body or  injury to your emotions. And one is as bad as the other. You wouldn’t let a friend punch you in your  face and you mustn’t let them punch you in your feelings.
What should you do?
Friends are very important to your mental and emotional health. You should have as many of them as you can get. But they must be the right type! Loads of research has been done that show that the wrong type of friends can cause you a lot of mental harm. If you find that you are made to feel angry, depressed or upset by your friends, then get rid of them. Get different ones. That is the simple simple solution. It is very easy to say, understand and believe BUT not so easy to do in real life. You must have lots and lots of good friends. Ones that support you, ones that make you feel good and ones that you enjoy being in the company of. You must build up the number of them in your life.
And you must start cutting down on the other type. The ones that are always moaning, make you feel depressed or put you down. Start off with the worse one first. Start spending less time with them. And, if possible avoiding them altogether. This can be very difficult to do. Particularly if they live next door, are members of your family or you are married to them! LOL!
Some people you can’t avoid. You have to teach them how to become better friends. But that will be another another lesson, in an other article and on another day! LOL!
Following  the above plan will not only give you better relationships, it will also give you a strong feeling of having more control over your own life and you will develop more self-confidence. You will be happier in yourself  and with yourself.
Why will this plan work for me?
Many, many neuroscientist who have examined a large body of work called the Framingham data have found some amazing facts. They found that good behaviours — like quitting smoking or staying slender or being happy —is passed from friend to friend almost in the same way that the ‘flu does. Your health, happiness and even your lifestyle are all linked to your friends and people whom you mix with. If the people you associate  have positive attitudes, have healthy lifestyles and are happy, this will tend to rub off on you. You, too, will have positive attitudes, a healthy lifestyles and be happy. Which means that you could (drum roll) become more successful and healthier as well as happier.
The Bad News
The bad news from the Framingham Report is that it works in both directions. And the same was true of all behaviours. You will pick up all sorts of behaviours that are unhelpful, unwanted and even harmful. The Report shows that over and over again. That groups of friends  can “infect” each other with being overweight, unhappiness and smoking.

Just so you fully understand this POWERFUL, POWERFUL lesson:

You Want To Be Healthy, Happy And Positive?
Then you must absorb the lessons above. This research is proving that what you achieve in your life, how healthy you are and how happy you feel is strongly linked to the type of people that you mix with. I believe in keeping things very, very simple. Then any message that I give is easy to understand. So here is a simple way to lift your life up to a higher level. Here, again, is how to use these findings.
The Simple Way
Think about all the friends and associates that you mix with.  Think about the affects that each of them has on you. Start to spend more time with the ones that have a positive influence on you.  Start to spend less time with the  people who have a negative influence on you. Keep making steady progress in both areas.
As I said above this is a very simple plan. BUT it can be very hard to follow.
So What Is The Secret Of Success?
Do a little but do it all the time, as and when you can. A very important presupposition of The Happy People is that a SMALL change can make a BIG difference. DO  NOT try to make big changes in your life overnight. Make small but steady changes and be determined. Make GENTLE progress. You want to EASE negative people out of your life. Not turn them into eneemies.
Or you could become one of The Happy People and associate yourself with other people who want to have lots of GOOD relationships, be successful and enjoy every moment of their lives. It’s totally FREE. Just follow this blog. Easier still follow it by email.

Another Lesson In How To Be Happy
Most of you have felt happiness at times in your life. The Art of being one of The Happy People is to be happy more massively. You have to learn how to be happy on a massive scale. To really enjoy those great feelings more often, for longer periods of time and more powerfully than you have known before.
You are entitled to be happy. God, or nature if you prefer, made you that way. Your whole life should be devoted to feeling happiness as often and for as long as you can.
Are You Serious?
It wouldn’t be realistic to think that you could be totally happy for every moment of your life. That is not what I am saying.
Into everybody’s life a little rain must fall.
The rain will fall into my life, your life, everybody’s life. Believe me! I know! LOL
But what I am saying is that you must have the skill in you to enjoy every possible piece of happiness that you can, wherever you can and whenever you can.
I know that most of the people reading this have started following The Happy People advice here on this blog. If you aren’t, you should. It’s all free.
The Next Step
Anyhow, once you have started. Here is the next step. It is very important,  very effective and very  powerful. Start on this second step as soon as possible.
Happiness Is Sharing, Share your Happiness
You could say that happiness is like a candle. Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. And the flame will stay as bright. You must use your happiness candle to  light other people’s candles. Other people all have a candle. They just haven’t lit it yet.
Your candle of happiness must be shared. You must use it to light their candles and show them how to be happy. You must use it to help other depressed, dysfunctional or stressed out people. This has several great side  effects. It makes the people you’re sharing with happy, it makes you even happier and it produces good Karma. It produces good Karma in two ways. You are being happy and that is what Nature designed you for. Above everything else your purpose in life is to be happy. When you are, Good Karma is flowing for you. You are sharing your gift with somebody who is probably a friend, spouse or relative close to your heart.
Just think about it for moment. When you share your joy in living with another person, you are doing  something truly beautiful. You/we are making ripples in the pond of  Life.
Who knows where those ripples will spread out to? Please help the ripples of happiness to spread. Please share this post and others on the blog with ALL your friends,
Love, Wealth and Happiness,
